FAR Part 61 Flight Schools

There are two basic regulations covering flight schools. It has to do with which part of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) they operate under. Chopper Aviation is an FAR part 61 flight school. The other regulation a flight school can operate under is FAR part 141. A part 141 school means the school is “certified” and recognized by the FAA. While both have their advantages and disadvantages, one big advantage a part 61 school has over a part 141 school is flexibility. A 141 syllabus is very rigid and has several stage checks that must be completed before being allowed to advance. Part 141 schools also tend to be more expensive. All pilots, regardless of which part they train under, must meet the requirements of part 61. Our aircraft and instructors are all certified by the FAA. Keep in mind, regardless of whether you’re training under part 61 or 141, you are going to take the same knowledge test, your flight training requirements are the same, you’re going to take the same check flight with a Designated Pilot Examiner using the same Airmen Certification Standards, and you’re going to receive the same license issued by the FAA. Being certified under part 141 has nothing to do with one type of school being safer or better than the other school. It’s a matter of application and paperwork. Don’t let the word “certified” fool you into believing this is a better way to train. Most flight schools in this country operate under part 61. Contact us for more information. You’ll be glad you did. Woof!
