Steps to Becoming a Pilot

The normal progression of pilot licenses and ratings in the civilian market is as follows:

- Private Pilot License (PPL)

- Instrument Rating

- Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

- Multi Engine Rating

- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP)

*Once the initial CFI rating is achieved, the CFII and CFMEI can be obtained in any order depending on individual needs.
